Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety for treating ureteral calculi with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL) and holmium laser lithotripsy(LL). Methods: 210 ureteral calculi patients were randomly divided into study group(n=106) and control group(n=104). The patients in study group were treated with LL, while the patients in control group were treated with ESWL. The clinical effects, operation time, hospital stays, leaving bed time and occurrence of adverse reactions of 2 groups were compared. Results: The total effective rate of study group was 92.5%(98/106), which was obviously higher than control group(P0.01). Compared with control group, the operation time, hospital stays and leaving bed time of study group shortened obviously, and incidence of adverse reactions decreased obviously(P0.01, P0.05). Conclusions: Treating ureteral calculi with LL can obtain better clinical effects, and also has the advantages of easy operation, little injury, fast recovery, less adverse reactions and high security.
