Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I), insulin-like growth factor-I receptor(IGF-IR) and glucose transporter-4(GLUT-4) in colorectal carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical stain was used to detect the expression of IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 protein in 70 cases colorectal carcinoma, 30 cases colorectal adenoma and 20 cases normal colorectal mucosa; and the correlations of aboving three factors in colorectal carcinoma were also analyzed. Results: The expression of IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 in colorectal carcinoma were significantly higher than that of normal colorectal mucosa and colorectal adenoma(P0.01). In colorectal carcinoma, the expression of IGF-I was positively correlated with IGF-IR and GLUT4(r =0.412,0.396, P 0.01). Conclusions: IGF-I, IGF-IR and GLUT-4 may play an important role in development of colorectal carcinoma.
