STUDY ON CATHETER METHOD TO MEASURE BLOOD FLOW OF THE RAT PULMONARY CIRCUIT

Objective:To study a new catheter method to measure blood flow of the pulmonary circuit.Methods:The right vena jugularis externa was carefully dissected.A Plastic catheter was inserted from the right vena jugularis externa through the superior vena cava,right atrium,and right ventricle into the pulmonary artery.The physiological parameters were recorded with a 4 channel polygraph system,Model ST 42,manufactured in Shanghai,China.Blood flow of the pulmonary circuit was calculated according to the formula Qp=MPAP·△QMPAP-MPAP,where △Q is the volume of blood from the pulmonary artery into volumeter through the catheter per minute.Results:The calculated Q P=29,62±3.72ml/min.It was Within the limits of normal blood flow of the rat pulmonary circuit.Conclusion:The new self designed catheter method is exact and simple.
