Effect of Silane Treatment on Corrosion Resistance of AZ31 Magnesium Alloys

The colorless and transparent silane film is prepared by immersing AZ31 magnesium alloys after re-treatments in KH-550 and BTSPS silane solutions.Salt immersion and polarization tests are conducted to study the influence of silane treatments on the corrosion resistance of AZ31 magnesium alloys,and the surface corrosion morphologies of specimens are analyzed.It's found that the compact silane film with effective shield function can improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy,and BTSPS silane treatment is superior to KH-550's.The corrosion pinholes of magnesium alloys in NaCl solutions expand in the form of bars and link each other with the ceaselessly corrosion.Corrosion production Mg(OH)2 is in the shape of loose and porous honeycomb structure.
