Responses of Antioxidant System in Pearl Oyster Pteria pengiunto Copper Exposure

The activities of glutathione-peroxidae(GPx),catalase(CAT)and superoxide dismutase were(SOD)were detected in hepatopancreas of pearl oyster Pteria penguin with body weight of(88.24±13.32)g exposed to Cu~(2+) concentrations of 0,10,20 or 40μg/L prepared by CuSO_4·5H_2O in 0.2 m~3 glass fiber tanks at water temperature of(27.6±1.0)℃ by static method in order to understand the effects of copper on antioxidant capacity of pearl oyster.The results showed that Cu~(2+) induced the increase in activities of the GPx,CAT and SOD,and GPx activity was found to be elevated at low concentration of Cu~(2+).However,the CAT activity was increased quickly at high Cu~(2+) concentration.In all groups,SOD activities were elevated gradually in early rearing period,and kept higher at high Cu~(2+) concentration in the end of the experiment.The findings indicate that the 3 antioxidases above are all sensitive to copper,and could be an indicator in survey of copper pollution in the sea water.
