Design and implementation of data warehouse for Beijing air quality data

This paper designs and implements an air quality data warehouse prototype system with Oracle 10g and ArcGIS 9.0 to manage and utilize effectively accumulating monitor data of air quality in Beijing and provide decision-making support for air quality management,air pollution control and industry layout. The source data is the monitor data of 28 monitor stations from the year of 2000 to 2007 in Beijing. First,we model the data warehouse as a star scheme and present many technologies to improve query performance in detail. Then,we use web,GIS and OLAP to develop a web spatial OLAP system,which can help users to query,analyze air quality information from different aspects,such as multi-temporal or multi-spatial scales,multi-temporal-spatial-attribute dimensions,and visually show it with many modes,for example,maps,tables,and graphs,etc.
