A study on information extraction of water body using band1 and band7 of TM imagery

Using TM imagery of Beijing area,a new scheme for extracting information of water body has been proposed in this paper through the study on the difference of spectral characteristics between water body and other surface features,and the contrastive analysis on the common water extraction methods —NDWI and MNDWI.The new scheme extracted water body information by using normalized ratio of Band1and Band7—(Band1-Band7)/(Band1+Band7).The experiment demonstrated as follow: the new scheme could extract water body information within urban area much more precisely than NDWI and MNDWI,as well as could extract water body information within the plant footprint.
