Comparison of surface and solid discrete global grids

Geodesic plays an important role at the sphere subdivision process,and it guarantees the shape simplicity of the sphere grid cell and the consistency of spatial relationships of the entire grid system.This article discussed the evaluation criteria of the spherical volume subdivision,presented a cutting method of global 3D grids based on great circle arc QTM sphere octree,and finally pointed out that as a new large-scale 3D integration data model,the global solide discrete grids woule be a new developing direction of geographic information science research.
