An improved fuzzy C-means algorithm using pixel's neighborhood information in image segmentation

An image segmentation method via fuzzy C-means clustering with spatial information was proposed in the paper.This method used the pixels membership of every pixel neighborhood to fix the membership functions of FCM algorithm,then modified the membership function of the FCM for taking into account the spatial information of image data.Fuzzy membership matrix and clustering center were determined according to the principle of minimum square error sum.Finally,the optimal threshold was obtained by the principle of maximum membership,and the image pixels could be categorized into different regions.Experimental results showed that the proposed method could segment the image effectively and fast,and also have good performance in resisting noise.
