Comparative study of different water indexes based on TM/ETM+imagery

This study took Caohai National Natural Reserve as an example and based on Landsat ETM + image,comparatively studied from three aspects: discrimination,water error rate and area accuracy on NDVI and other five normalized water indexes: Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI),Modified Normalized Difference Water Index(MNDWI),Revised Normalized Difference Water Index(RNDWI),New Water Index(NWI) and NEW index,to show accuracy rating of extracting wetland water information.The results indicated that NDVI extracting water is less effective but other five water indexes are valid for a water extraction,among these five indexes,NWI index gets the highest integrated precision,then followed by MNDWI and NEW,both of RNDWI and NDWI have a worse expression in it.The result could provide a reference for rapidly extracting water information.
