Overlap removal methods for airborne LiDAR data

This paper proposed an algorithm based on Grid-based method to remove overlap of airborne LiDAR data. The algorithm employs the regular grids to represent the areas covered by the point clouds,extracts the redundant point clouds in the overlaps by assigning the values to the grids,and finally deletes the redundant point clouds which near the edge of the strips. Experiment showed that this method could quickly and effectively remove the redundant data in the overlap area. The algorithm does not rely on the track information,so would apply in ground-based laser point cloud overlap.
