A classification method for segmented point clouds in urban areas based on semantic reasoning

Currently,a laser pulse emitted by an airborne LiDAR system can receive multiple returns/ echoes,and both of the number of a pulse and the return number of a footprint are helpful to determine the types of the measured objects.In the paper,after the outliers were removed,the remaining points were grouped into two subsets,one including the first echoes and the intermediate echoes and the other including the last echoes and the singular echoes.The latter subset was filtered by segmentation uing 3D Hough transformation,and divided into ground points and non-ground points(including wall points). Subsequently,the former subset and the non-ground points were merged into a new point cloud data.The new data was segmented,and three features,including the size,the proportion of single pulse return points,the proportion of first and intermediate pulse return points,were used to classify the new point cloud into building points and vegetation points.Experiments suggested that the proposed method could classify the point cloud into wall points,ground points,building points and vegetation points with good effects.
