The Spatial Process Monitoring and Dynamic Mechanism Analysis of Rapid Urbanization

Monitoring and understanding the expansion of built-up areas can help the sustainable development of a city. However, significant challenges in the extraction of urban areas and its dynamic mechanism, this study proposes an integrated framework for extracting urban area and analyzing urban expansion. This framework applies geographic object-based image analysis and random forests algorithm to monitor the urban expansion and analyze the dynamic process by using the expansion indicators, and explores the dynamic driving forces of urban area expansion with random forests regression. The results show that the urban area expansion of the study area has a spatio-temporal differentiation within the last 25 years. The urban area expansion of the study area is mainly driven by socio-economic factors and neighborhood factors, andits driving force has evolved over time.
