Improvement of Archie Water-saturation Model for the Low Porosity Formation

The Archie equation is on the basic petrophysical tests of homogeneous sandstone with high porosity.There is uncertainty in its application to the low porosity sandstone.With the water-saturation model of the main production formation in A gas field as an example and based on the Archie equation,we worked out the relationship between the formation facter(F) and porosity,and relationship between the saturation index(n) and porosity for the low porosity sandstone.It is revealed that the relationship between the formation facter(F) and porosity is cubic with one unknown quantity,and the relationship between the saturation index(n) and porosity is quadratic function with one unknown quantity.So the the formation facter(F) and the saturation index(n) can be calculated from porosity directly.It is well known that the porosity can be directly calculated from logging data.Thus most of the parameters in the Archie equation can be directly calculated from logging data.So the precision of water-saturation is increased greatly.
