The Wealth Inequality among the Households in China ——An Analysis Based on the Household Survey in Chengdu, Baoji and Handan

Research on China's income distribution requires deeply analyzing the household wealth holdings. Based on the survey data from the wealth andincome of urban and rural residents in Baoji, Chengdu and Handan in 2012, this paper conducts a comprehensive study of household wealth by regions, and urban and rural areas respectively. Specifi cally, this paper draws following conclusions. Firstly, wealth inequality is widespread in each region and between urban and rural households. Secondly, there are huge wealth gaps among regions and between urban and rural households. Finally, real estate and fi nancial assets are two important reasons for the inequality of wealth in urban areas; real estate, land and productive operating assets are the three key factors which cause the wealth inequality in rural areas.
