On the Future Economic Growth from the Change of Population Age Structure

ZHAO Wen;Institute of Population and Labor Economics,CASS;
This paper first reviews the reasons for the success of China's economic development in the past,and then analyzes the roles played by the change of the population age structure.And then,we discuss the problems of economic growth after China's population's age structure changes.We argue that China's younger population has helped China's economic growth in the past,but its role is very small.Therefore,after the change of the population's age structure in 2010,the China's economy has not been greatly affected.China's unfair distribution of income inequality,imbalances in international balance of payments,and the increasingly strong environmental constraints are the main drivers of changing the mode of economic growth.In the context of the third technological revolution,China should absorb the latest experience of developed countries and focus on building an economic system that can adapt to the third technological revolution.
