40 Years of Reform and Opening-up and Social Development in China

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences hosted the ninth academic conference for celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up, which discussed the achievements, experiences and challenges of China's social development in the 40 years of reform and opening-up. Li Peilin, a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, deputy director of the Social Construction Committee, member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and director of the Academic division of Social, Political and Legal Studies, summarized five major achievements, four major experiences and five future development trends of China's social development over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up. Li Qiang, a senior professor of liberal arts at Tsinghua University and dean of the Institute of Minsheng Economics, and professor of Department of Sociology, reviewed the changes in social structure in the past 40 years and made suggestions on how to expand middle-income groups. Xie Lizhong, a professor of sociology at Peking University, Changjing Distinguished professor, and Zhang Yi, president of the Institute of Social Development Strategy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and president of the China Society for Social Change and Development, commented on their academic views. Li Lin, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and former director of the Institute of Law, presided over the forum.
