Resistance to Cavitation Corrosion and Erosion/Abrasion of Laser Cladding Co Alloy Coating

Cobalt alloy coating was deposited onto 20SiMn steel by laser cladding technology. Compared to 20SiMn steel and 0Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel used as materials for hydroturbines rotating wheels, Co alloyed coating was evaluated by cavitation corrosion and erosion/abrasion and the both combined tests. Microstructure of coating and performance under different scratching were studied by using microhardness test, weight loss, EDMA and XRD. Results showed that the resistance of coating was excellent which was close related to occurrence of stress induced martensite phase transformation, and resistance of coating to combined damage catch up the performance of 0Cr13Ni5Mo stainless steel.
