Study on Friction Surfacing with Characteristics of Non Dilution and Thick Coating Layer

Using the consumable rods of 20 steel and 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel, experimental studies of friction surfacing welding were carried out to clarify the nature of the frictional and transferring behavior of consumable metal. The macro pattern, microstructure, microhardness and components of welding deposition were examined in detail, and also the driving force of metal transferring was discussed elaborately. Results showed that a solid bonding and non dilution thick coating layer with uniform distribution of hardness could be obtained by using consumable rod friction welding deposition process. The asymmetric thermo physical property of frictional system was the driving force of metal transferring which was not from the whole rotational plane but real contact plane and transferring behavior followed the frictional rules of welding on, shearing and plowing. The welding deposition was consisted of refined microstructure and so did the HAZ.
