Preparation and Performance of Self-healing Oxidation Protection Coating for Air Brakes

Oxidation protective coating with self-healing function for C/C composites is prepared. It mainly consists of fine ceramic powder of SiC, B_4C and high melt-point deoxide,and is brushed on C/C composites by simple art. Its oxidation resistance and thermal shock resistance are investigated by TGA tests in dynamic O_2 ,oxidative mass loss tests in static and dry air,SEM and X-ray diffraction. The results show that this coating can endure high temperature erosion of 40ml/min O_2 up to 1000℃. The mean oxidative mass loss of coated samples is about 10~ -8 ~10~ -6 g/(cm~2·s) order of magnitude from 600℃ to 1000℃.The coating has promising oxidation resistance in the working condition under 1000℃.The total mass loss of 17.8% after 10 times thermal cycles indicates this coating has good thermal shock resistance in some extent.The non-linear relation between mass loss rate and oxidation time or cycles of the coated sample is owing to the self-healing function.
