Development in Strengthening and Toughening Magnesium Alloys by Deformation

Magnesium alloys are promising structural light metals because their low densities, good recyclical potential and abundant resources. To improve mechanical properties will be necessary in order to increase the usage of components. Recent developments in improving strength and toughness of magnesium alloys by forming and refining microstructure are introduced in this paper. Mechanisms leading to improved strength and toughness of magnesium alloys are also discussed. Meanwhile, some applications of the plastic forming technology of magnesium alloy are presented.
