Progress in Reactive Mechanism of Ti with Al Elemental Powders

To study reactive mechanism of Ti with Al elemental powders is contributed to modifying reaction process. Different viewpoints on reactive mechanism of powders Ti with Al are introduced and discussed by the views of reactive kinetics and thermodynamics. It is thought that reactive sintering of Ti with Al elemental powders is a diffusion-controlled process including the formation of transient phases such as TiAl3 and TiAl2 by kinetics investigation. From thermodynamic considerations, TiAl3 phase is the first production because of its lowest formation free energy in Ti-Al system, and then TiAl phase forms subsequently and lots of reactions involved in TiAl2 and Ti2Al5 formation happen.
