Simulation of Squirrel Cage Type Cathode Microwave Magnetrons

A cathode priming technique, which uses a squirrel cage cathode instead of normal spiral cathode, presented in this paper. N/2 zonal emitted cathodes are employed for N-cavity magnetron, which leads to the electrons gouping into N/2 electron bunches at the birth and a faster generation of theπ-mode, which suppressing the mode competition and reducing system noise. The typical magnetron is simulated using Magic-3D code. The results shows that the steady working time of the improved magnetron inπ-mode is reduced from 120ns to 40ns. Voltage output and frequency property are optimized for the assembly.
