Self-assembled Ni_2P Nanosheet Array as Catalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

The development of effective and inexpensive hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)electrocatalysts for future renewable energy systems is highly desired.The self-assembled Ni_2P nanosheet array materials was synthesized by hydrothermal method and annealed method,applied for HER.The X-ray diffraction(XRD)and the field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM)were employed to examine structural properties of the self-assembled Ni_2P nanosheet array materials.Unlike the vast majority of evolution electrochemical research for the NiP nanomaterials in acidic condition,the electrocatalytic HER activity and stability for the self-assembled Ni_2P nanosheet array nanocatalyst were first tested by the linear sweep voltammetry(LSV)tests,the Tafel polarization curves,the time-dependent current density test and the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)tests in alkaline conditions.Due to their nanosheet array structure and material properties,the self-assembled Ni_2P nanosheet array exhibited a lower onset potential,a stronger reactivity and a better stability than the nickel foam for the HER.The results indicate that the self-assembled Ni_2P nanosheet array nanocatalyst supported noble-metal-free catalysts have promising applications for highly efficient water splitting.
