Preparation and Tribological Properties of SiC Composite Micro-arc Oxidation Ceramic Coating

By means of adding SiC nano-particles in electrolyte,composite ceramic coating was prepared on ZL109 aluminum alloy by micro arc oxidation and the microstructure and tribological properties of SiC composite micro-arc oxidation ceramic coating were studied.The results showed that the SiC nano-particles were found in the composite ceramic coating and the composite ceramic coating was mainly composed ofα-Al2 O3,γ-Al2 O3 and SiC.Compared with ordinary ceramic coating,the surface of SiC composite ceramic coating was more smooth and the hardness of SiC composite ceramic coating increased by 20.4%.The friction coefficient of SiC composite ceramic coating was reduced by 22% and the width of the wear scar was reduced by 34.7%in the high speed reciprocating friction and wear test.The results revealed that the improvement of the hardness and the thermal conductivity were the main reasons for the improvement of the friction and wear properties.
