Research Advances in Microcapsuled Self-healing Coatings

The microcapsule coatings is one of the hottest research of self-healing composite materials,which is use of biological organisms damage self-healing principle,to achieve the coating micro cracks,scratches and other defects of repair,then effectively enhance the corrosion resistance and service life of coating.According to the repair mechanism,the microencapsule self-healing coatings was divided into corrosion inhibition type and reaction repair type.The corrosion inhibition type is to release the corrosion inhibitor by microcapsule and delay the corrosion process of the matrix.The reaction repair type is to repair the damage of the coating through the release agent of microcapsule.The typical results and recent developments of microencapsulated self-healing coatings are systematically reviewed.The design and repair mechanism of self-healing coatings are described in detail,and the advantages and disadvantages of different coating systems are discussed.Finally,according to the present research situation of microcapsule self-healing coating,the defects in which field and the future development direction could be put forward.
