Study on the Tribological Properties of Carbon-Fiber/Carbon-based Friction Material

In order to adapt to the requirement of high energy density for the friction system of tank and armored vehicle,the carbon-fiber/carbon-based friction material were prepared by resin impregnation and carbonization technology.The clutch test-bed were used to evaluate the tribological properties of the material.The scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)and 3 Dlaser profilometer were used to analyze the surface morphology and the friction chip's morphology.The results showed that,the dynamic friction coefficient of carbon-fiber/carbon-based friction material is stable(μ=0.11).It has a good braking stationarity for its smoothly friction torque curves.The volume wear rate is 3.2×10-8 cm3·J-1 which show a good wear resistance.The heat resistance coefficient reached 43 900 J2·cm-4·s-1,which indicate that it can be used in high energy density conditions.The main wear mechanism between carbon-fiber/carbon-based friction material and steel dual disc is plough wear and abrasive wear.
