CFD-based Flow Field Analysis of Shielding Gas in Ultrasonic Assisted Laser-MIG Hybrid Welding Torch

The two-dimensional cross-section mesh of a simplified gas flow channel in ultrasonic assisted laser-MIG hybrid welding torch is introduced to generate by ICEM software.Based on standard k-ε model and multiphase flow volume of fluid(VOF)model,the transient outlet flow field of torch with different cross sections are simulated by FLUENT software.The velocity value and distribution of the gas flow are obtained,and the nozzle profile is optimized.The effect of nozzle height on the flow field of shielding gas is studied.The simulation results indicate that when the nozzle outlet diameter is 16 mm and the height is 16 mm,the distribution of gas flow field is the most reasonable with a best protection for welding.
