5 TO 6-YEAR-OLD KINDERGARTENERS′ ADDITION STRATEGIES: SELECTION AND EXECUTION

In the current study, we investigated the characteristic of 220 5-6-year-old kindergarteners′ selection and execution of addition strategies by individual tests. The results were as follows: (1) 5 to 6-year-old kindergartener used 5 basic strategies and 3 counting strategies to solve addition problems; (2) Kindergarteners mostly used sup- porting strategies; (3) Each strategy had different accurate rate and speed of execution; and (4) The difficulty of problems had significant effect on kindergarteners′ strategy selection and execution.
