THE PHENOMENON OF ASYMMETRY OF CROSS-LANGUAGE PRIMING AND ITS THEORETICAL EXPLANATIONS

The article reviewed past studies addressing the asymmetrical corss-language priming effects and theoretical explanations for this phenomenon, patricularly the latest model-Sense Model. The Sense Model indicated that asymmetrical corss-language priming effect is attributed not only the overlapping semantic features between prime and target, but also to the ratio of primed to unprimed senses of the target. At present, Sense Model is a possible account for the asymmetry of cross-language priming effect. Some questions that need to be further studied are pointed on the basis of present researches.
