The Relationship between Teachers′ Job Stress and Occupational Burnout: Moderate Effects of Occupational Commitment

By investigating 2114 primary and secondary school teachers with the questionnaires of job stress, occupational burnout and occupational commitment, the study mainly explored the moderate effects of occupational commitment on the relationship between teachers′ job stress and occupational burnout. The results showed that teachers′ job stress was positively correlated with emotional exhaustion, non-humanistic, and cognitive burnout, while affective, normative commitment was negatively correlated with occupational burnout. The teachers′ occupational commitment, as well as emotional commitment, retention commitment, normative commitment, had significant negative moderate effects on the relationship between job stress and occupational burnout. The different teaching age also had different effects on the specific occupational burnout.
