Wu Na;Zhang Chenyan;Zhou Zongkui;Key Laboratory of Adolescent Cyberpsychology and Behavior (CCNU) , Ministry of Education, School of Psychology, Central China Normal University;
To explore the relationship between Children′s Internet Use with Academic Performance, and the moderating effect of Self-control, the Internet Use Questionnaire, Family Affluence Scale, and the Dual-Mode of Self-Control Scale for adolescents were adopted to examine 547 Grades 4-6 children. Result revealed that: 1) High frequency of online information seeking significantly predicted children′ s high score on Reading. 2) Self-control played a moderated role in the relationship between online information seeking with reading performance, and also worked in social networking. More specially, the ability of delay of gratification strengthened the improvement of Reading scores when children seek information online, and also slowed down the negative effects of Social Networking on children′s Reading scores.
