Study on Exothermic Behavior of Alkali-Slag Cement in Hydration

The micro-calorimeter was adopted to study the exothermic behavior of alkali-slag cement in hydration from the two aspects of the exothermic rate and the cumulative exothermic amount,and the link of the exothermic behavior with the setting performance was analyzed as well.The results indicate that the initial exothermic peak of NaOH-slag cement emerges early while that of water glass-slag cement emerges late but great in value,respectively 2.3 times of NaOH-slag cement and 3.5 times of Portland cement,that water glass-slag cement has a longer induction period than that of NaOH-slag cement,and alkali-slag cement shows a great initial exothermic rate and a small cumulative exothermic amount,relative to Portland cement,that the 3 d's cumulative exothermic amount of the alkali-slag cement prepared with NaOH and water glass is respectively 67% and 26% of that of Portland cement,and that the setting time is not direct related to the cumulative exothermic amount of cement in hydration,but closely to the exothermic rate in early hydration stages.
