The Prestige View in International Relations

Yu Jingdong;
Power has both elementary and relational attributes,traditional elementary analysis and evolutional relational analysis from two aspects of prestige's definition.On one hand,prestige is one kind of property.It is the display of power based on the actor's elementary resources.On the other hand,prestige is a kind of relation.It is the power relation based on each other's opinion and cognition.The former treats prestige as a tool of power.Therefore the prestigious policy prefers the display of material and non-material resources to promote prestige.The latter treats prestige as power itself.Therefore foreign policy is in search of other 's recognition,even in the cost of material and non-material resources.However,the real purpose behind those two kinds of prestigious policy is the pursuit of power.
