THE RELATIONSHIP OF SYMPATHETIC-ADRENAL SYSTEMAND RENAL HEMODYNAMICS IN CIRRHOSIS TOSODIUM RETENTION

The sympath etic-adrenal system and renal hemody-namics in relation with sodium retention were studied in cases with and 20 cases without ascites and 35 cases of normal con-trol. Our results showed that there is a significant sodium retention in the bodies of patients with cirrhosis and ascites, the renal dlood flow and glomerular filtration rate decreased; Both plasma-noradrenaline and adrenaline concentration were significantly increased, and so did the urinary excretion of th em. Except this, they were negatively correlated with the effective renal plasma flow, endogenous creatinine clearance rate and urinary sodium excretion in 24 hours. It suggested that the enhanced activity of sympathetic adrenal system waa playing an important role in the abnormalities of renal hemodynam ics and sodium retention in patients with cirrhosis and ascites.
