Research on the Coordinated Regional Development from the Perspective of Core-Periphery Structure

ZHANG Tong;
The 19 th CPC National Congress shows the firm resolve in implementing " the coordinated regional development strategy" and proposes to " put in place new,effective mechanisms to ensure coordinated development". In order to explore practices and to construct theories about a new integral and balanced regional development,it is of great importance to review such classic theorists as Von Thunen, Friedman, Krugman, Burgess etc. and their view of the regional core-periphery structure as a non-coordinated development model. Based on the perspective of core-periphery structure,the industrial society as a whole presents a core-periphery structure,especially in the regional development area. That is,the core area takes an advantageous,even a powerful,position in the possession of resources,the level of development,innovation and other aspects,and dominates or controls the periphery region. As human beings move into the process of post-industrialization,the core-periphery structure,as a mature form of industrial society,has shown many signs and trends of decentralization,but it is still very difficult to eliminate this unequal structure. As a result,it is necessary to clearly propose the task of breaking the core-periphery structure,both practically and theoretically,in order to pursue a real coordinated regional development.
