The hybrid of Qiufeng × Baiyu, selected by artificial diet feeding for many generations, showed significant improvement in developmental uniformity if compared with the conventional varieties when fed with artificial diet for the first two instars and then changed into mulberry leaf feeding. It was also found that the selected Qiufeng × Baiyu showed higher cocoon weight and cocoon shell weight without obvious defects in silk quality, with better reelability and longer non-broken silk length. Therefore, this is a good hybrid for artificial dietfeeding in young larvalstage.
