Theoretic analysis for bond stresses between CFRP and concrete in double shear tests

In recent years, CFRP laminates have been externally bonded to the surfaces of deficient concrete structures for strengthening. Wide attention has been paid to this technique and it is increasingly applied. When the laminate is used to strengthen concrete structures, its bond with concrete is extremely important. The double shear test is suitable for studying the bond stress and was carried out, but the relevant stress analysis has not been reported in research literatures. In this paper, the analytical expression for bond stress between CFRP laminate and concrete is derived on basis of the linear elastic theory. The results indicate stress concentration at the end of CFRP where the largest shear stress appears. The solution is then verified by finite element analysis, and therefore, can be used to theoretically solve the bond question in the shear test.
