Influence of ultrafine slag on the properties of cement-based materials

This paper presents the influence of content and fineness of ultrafine slag on the properties of cement pastes and mortars. The flowability of the pastes and mortars increases with the addition of ultrafine slag. With the same ultrafine slag content, the slag of higher fineness improves the fluidity of the pastes and mortars greater. When the content of slag is low, the setting time of pastes is slightly shortened. But, as for the pastes with high content of slag added, the setting time of them is prolonged with the increase of slag content. The non-evaporable water content continuously increases with the increment of curing age. In this paper, the compressive strength of cement pastes and mortars at 28 d improves with the increase of slag content. The early strength of cement pastes or mortars varies slightly. And, when the fineness of the slag added is bigger, it is higher than that of the control. The non-evaporable water content expressed on a unit mass of cement basis has the same law.
