Study of design standard for lateral stiffness of railway bridge piers

The different specifications for limited lateral deformation value of piers in several countris' railway bridge design codes were compared,and it was pointed out that the limited value in foreign standard was not suitable for present condition of Chinese railway bridges and trains.Based on the design code,the elastic lateral deformation at pier top was calculated and conversed to the angle at beam end,and the lateral stiffness of real piers were analazed.The suggested design standard of piers' lateral stiffness which matched with that in certified code was given.
