Effect of Barrel Temperature on the Quasi-Static Engraving Process of Small-Caliber Projectile

The engraving process has an important effect on the firing accuracy of small-caliber bullets. In this paper,the effects of barrel temperature on this process of small-caliber bullet were studied by experimental and numerical simulation on Quasi-static. The hot extrusion test was carried out at 20 ~ 120℃,and the engraving resistance curves were obtained at different temperatures of barrel. Using Hypermesh and Abaqus joint modeling,combined with a variety of material damage failure model to simulate the bursts of firing,the trend of the engraving resistance is obtained at 20 ~ 170 ℃ respectively.It is found that the axial frictional resistance is the main component of the engraving resistance,and the proportion of the axial force of the guide side decreases with the increase of the temperature of the barrel.The experimental results verify the accuracy of the finite element model of the heat barrel,and provide the theoretical reference for the research of the starting trajectory in the design theory of the bullet.
