Nutritional support in progressive gastric cancer patients with obstruction during the neoadjuvant chemothearpy

Objective: To investigate the potential role of enteral nutritional support in progressive gastric cancer patients with obstruction of digestive tract during the neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Methods: Forty nine progressive gastric cancer patients were investigated during neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Eight patients accepted enteral nutrition support(EN group) for the obstruction of digestive tract.The others accepted normal diet(ND group).Their plasma protein,ALB,Hb,and RBC were recorded before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Their body weight change were recorded.Results: The body weight of EN group patients were increased significantly compared with ND group after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.After neoadjuvant chemotherapy,the plasma protein and ALB of EN group patients were improved significantly than before.The plasma protein and ALB of ND group patients descended significantly after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Hb and RBC of EN group patients increased mildly after therapy.Hb and RBC of ND group patients decreased significantly after therapy.Conclusion: Enteral nutrition support can improve the nutritional status of progressive gastric cancer patients during the neoadjucant chemotherapy,and help for the finish of whole therapy safely and effectively.
