Deformation Analysis of a Diesel Engine Piston Skirt

Using Workbench, simulation of piston under thermal load, mechanical load, coupling load simulation were conducted for a diesel engine, upon which obtained radial deformation of the piston skirt at different loads. Following conclusions were reached by comparing the results: radial deformation of the skirt portion under thermo-mechanical coupled load equals to vector sum of that under thermal load and mechanical load individually, and radial deformation of the piston skirt increases with increased skirt, deformation in areas next to piston pin is greater than radial deformation in direction normal to piston axis.. Therefore, in order to make the piston working at good film contacts with liner, the piston should be designed as convex oval with small head and bigger foot.
