Proper Tolerance Setting in Engine Design

The tolerance setting rule in the design of engines is expounded, and the rationality of tole-rance setting not only has an influence on the performance of the whole engine and market application, but may also has a big influence on the cost of manufacturing. Taking the engine block tolerance as an example, the relation between tolerance setting and processing system is analyzed. With the premise of ensuring the whole engine's performance, choosing the biggest allowable tolerance, keeping the roughness not less than Ra1.6 and not excessively pursuing high-precise form and location tolerance are suggested, which can reduce the cost of manufacturing.
