Correlation analysis of plant carbon-nitrogen content and tiller-related gene expression with rice tiller formation

To investigate the relationship of soluble sugar content, total nitrogen content and tillerrelated gene expression with tiller formation, four Japonica varieties in cold area and two Indica varieties with different tiller characteristics were used. The results showed that the tiller characteristics, tiller starting time,formation speed and the highest tiller number etc., were mainly controlled by genotypes, especially in panicle number varieties. At tillering stage, soluble sugar content, carbon-nitrogen ratio and Os MADS57 expression level in varieties with high tiller number were significantly higher than that in varieties with low tiller number,but it was opposite for total nitrogen content and the expression level of OsTB1, OsD3 and OsD14. In addition, tiller number is significantly positively correlated with soluble sugar content, carbon-nitrogen ratio,and Os MADS57 expression level, significantly negatively correlated with the expression level of OsTB1,OsD3 and OsD14, and negatively correlated with total nitrogen content at tillering stage.
