Effect of different feeding levels on substance and energy metabolism of crossbred ewes

Fifteen Dorper and Thin-Tailed Han lambs crossbred F1 lambs were selected. The ewes were randomly allocated to 3 groups and 5 ewes per group. The ewes were offered a mixture diet for ad libitum, or 70% or 40% of the ad libitum intake for 52 d. The results showed that the growth performance and intake of dry matter(DM), nitrogen(N), neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiber(ADF) of ewes influenced significantly with decreasing levels of feed intake(P0.01), but the apparent digestibility of dry matter(DM), nitrogen(N), neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acid detergent fiber(ADF) did not influence(P0.05); the methane emission, methane energy and heat production influenced significantly with decreasing levels of feed intake(P0.01); the FHP was 0.20 and 0.24 MJ·kg-1·W0.75, and the NEm was 0.24 and 0.288 MJ · kg-1· W0.75.This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of different feeding levels on energy metabolism of crossbred ewes by using open respiratory calorimetry measuring device. The trails was conducted according to a completely random design.
