Space-time block code based on layered space time architecture

A new space-time coding approach is proposed by combining BLAST (Bell Layered Space Time) and STBC (Space Time Block Code). The transmit antennas are divided into subgroups and each of them is encoded by individual STBC. For the receive antennas,the group interference suppression measurement is taken and a singular value decomposition (SVD) algorithm is employed for decoding. The new approach has a higher spectrum efficiency and code rate than that of STBC. Simulation results show that the ability of combating fading of the approach is better than that of BLAST.
