Pilot-assisted carrier frequency-offset estimation in smart antenna

Smart antenna is thought to play an important role in future wireless communication. However,the performance of such communication system strictly depends on accurate estimates of the synchronization parameters, such as carrier frequency-offset (CFO). In this paper,the contributions of the numbers of both the array elements and pilot symbols for pilot-assisted CFO estimation was analyzed quantitatively,a new algorithm for pilot-assisted CFO estimation in presence of co-channel interference (CCI) with the help of adaptive array weighted structure was also presented. However,neither adaptive weight nor array manifold was needed in the final algorithm. Furthermore,computer simulations show that the proposed algorithm can fully exploit the gains from elements and pilots and reject the effect of CCI effectively.
