Based on the biostratigraphic and chronostratigraphic data, the Carboniferous—Permian strata (from the Chuanshan Formation to the Gufeng Formation) in the Tonglu region of Zhejiang Province can be divided into five third-order sequences and 13 fourth-order sequences. In general,4—6 meter-scale parasequences make a sequence of higher order.Sequence stratigraphic data also indicate that the 500-m-thick Carboniferous-Permian succession in the Tonglu region represent a deepening upward sequence, beginning in platform facies and in deep water basinal facies.
