REVISION OF LOWER PALAEOZOIC STRATIGRAPHY OF THE NANLING METALLOGENIC BELT

Lower Paleozoic strata of Nanling Metallogenic Belt is mainly composed of epimetamorphic clastic rocks mixed with siliceous shale formations,bearing vanadium,molybdenum,uranium,lead,and zinc ores,as well as stone coal phosphorites.For historical reasons,there are numerous synonymous lithostratigrphic names for Lower Paleozoic stratigraphic sequences in the borderland of Hunan,Guizhou,Guangxi,Jiangxi,and Guangdong.In this paper,we have revised the Lower Paleozoic stratigraphy of Nanling Metallogenic Belt,creating a uniform lithostratigraphic nomenclature system for the South China Region on the basis of geotectonic stages.Furthermore,the region is divided into six sub-regions according to the different tectonic settings in the region.In particular,we focus on the revision of the Cambrian and Ordovician systems in the borderland of Hunan,Guangxi,Jiangxi,and Guangdong,with recommendations to redefine some lithostratigraphic units and to discontinue the usage of other,in order to develop a uniform lithostratigraphic sequence for the geological mapping of this region.
